This greeted our arrival in the Bavarian Alps, at Berchtesgaden. A nice big
plate of schnitzel. For those not informed, "schnitzel" is German for "chicken-fried," and
they'll do it to anything -- beef, veal, pork, lamb . . . uh . . . Well, okay, by "anything" I
meant "anything with four legs." Not a whole lot of chicken or vegetarian alternatives about.
And, of course, fries come with everything.
And hey, you remember those Foster's ads -- "Australian for salad!" -- where they put a hunk of parsley
on a 10 oz. steak. Well, that lettuce slice and that tomato sliver there would
be "German for salad." Mmm hmmmm.
