Well, almost everybody. I know I'm misinterpreting the "gasse" bit; I think it
roughly translates to "lane." But this would not be the last time I got an uneasy feeling
about Germany's attitude toward Jews. The appellation "Jew Street" wouldn't last a minute
in the States.
And it was a bit shocking to discover that the Gideons don't even bother with
the Old Testament in German hotel rooms. It's Christ through and through.
But perhaps I'm being silly. It wouldn't be the first time. When first I rolled into
Germany aboard the Eurail in 1987, at age eight, my parents had to quickly and sternly
silence me when I began loudly asking where all the Nazis were.
